Acne

Studies indicate that most people experience acne in some form at some time in their life. Hormonal changes cause the enlargement and blocking of oil producing sebaceous glands near the hair follicle within the skin. Acne usually begins with an abnormal amount of bacteria which causes painful pimples that can appear on your face, chest, back, limbs and virtually any other part of the body. Although we treat many teenagers with acne, "adult onset acne" brings many adults to our practice for treatment! Whatever your age, we examine each patient thoroughly to determine the best treatment.

Our ClearLight® Acne Therapy is a unique therapeutic Blue Light that treats moderate inflammatory acne and is one of the safest treatments available. With ClearLight® there are no known side effects such as with some topical or oral therapies. Treatment is typically a series of 8 treatments over 4 weeks time. There is no pain and no down time.

Some acne may require a more intensive treatment: Levulan Kerastick® "Photo Dynamic Therapy" (PDT). Levulan is applied to the acne. Afterwards, the skin is exposed to a Blue Light or an IPL laser. A reaction occurs which helps destroy the acne. There is an excellent cosmetic response with no scarring reported.

Facial peels are also used to treat some acne. As usual, we customize the peel for your individualized needs.
